Shade is proud to be Manhattan Beach’s first luxury hotel, located in the heart of a city rich in history and vibrant charm. Once a quiet coastal stretch known for cattle ranches and bean fields, Manhattan Beach transformed into a sought-after summer getaway after the arrival of the Santa Fe railroad in 1888. Over the years, it’s grown into a sophisticated destination known for its iconic pier, chic restaurants, and sun-soaked lifestyle. Opened in 2005, Shade stands on the historic site of the Metlox Pottery factory, which produced colorful ceramics before the area was revitalized into a hub of fine dining and upscale shopping.
